The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Monday sentenced Tasnim Odeh to 17 months in prison after convicting her of incitement to terrorism and identification with a terror organization (Hamas), following a series of posts she published on social media platforms TikTok and Facebook.

Odeh, 23, a resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem and a law student at Al-Quds University, is the daughter of Barakat Musa Odeh, a militant who was killed in October 2022 during a vehicular ramming attack at the Nabi Musa junction in the Jordan Valley, in which five Israeli soldiers were injured.

As Odeh has been in custody since December 2024, she is expected to be released from prison on April 5, 2026.

How was the incitement carried out on social media?

The indictment filed by the Jerusalem District Prosecutor’s Office detailed multiple instances in which Odeh praised militants and expressed support for terrorist acts.

In July 2024, shortly after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, who headed the Hamas organization, Odeh published a Facebook post stating: “We pledge allegiance to you, Abu Ibrahim, we pledge allegiance to you.” The post included images of Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar and expressed loyalty to them as leaders of Hamas.

In September 2024, following the death of Mohammed Zubeidi, the son of militant Zakaria Zubeidi – one of the security prisoners who escaped from Gilboa Prison through a tunnel – Odeh published a TikTok post in which she said: “Today I turn my eyes to the father of the martyr, who spent and devoted his life to imprisonment.” The post included images of Zakaria Zubeidi and praised him as a “martyr.”

One day after the killing of Yahya Sinwar in October 2024, Odeh published another TikTok post stating: “Even if he ascended to the heavens, he achieved what he aspired to and worked for.” In an additional quote in the same post, she wrote: “Glory belongs to those who die amid gunfire. Shame will come to every despairing and doubtful person.” The post praised Sinwar and glorified death “for the cause.”

Could she be expelled from Jerusalem after serving her sentence?

In February 2025, Interior Minister Moshe Arbel announced his intention to expel Tasnim Odeh from Jerusalem due to her incitement and identification with terror organizations, subject to a formal hearing. If the expulsion proceeds, Odeh would be prevented from returning to the streets of Jerusalem as early as April.
