A suspected drug dealer disguised as a delivery rider was arrested in central Jerusalem after police discovered a large quantity of drugs hidden inside his delivery bag.
The arrest took place during a routine patrol by municipal policing officers operating in the Lev HaBira station area in central Jerusalem. During the patrol, officers noticed a bicycle rider carrying a large delivery bag whose behavior raised their suspicion.
When the suspect noticed the police officers, he attempted to flee the scene, but after a short chase the officers managed to stop and arrest him.
What did police find inside the delivery bag in Jerusalem?
During a search of the delivery bag carried by the suspect, officers discovered dozens of small packets prepared for sale containing a substance suspected to be drugs with a total weight of about 2 kilograms. Police also seized thousands of shekels in cash and a mobile phone believed to have been used to coordinate drug deals.
Police officials said the packaging and quantity indicated suspected drug distribution activity carried out through delivery-style movement around the city.
The suspect, a 32-year-old resident of Jerusalem, was taken for questioning at the Lev HaBira police station.
How are delivery bags used for drug trafficking in Jerusalem?
Police say that using bicycle or scooter couriers has become a method sometimes used to conceal illegal drug distribution in busy urban areas. Large delivery bags allow suspects to hide significant quantities of drugs while appearing to operate as ordinary couriers moving through the streets.
Superintendent Michael Suissa, commander of the Jerusalem District municipal policing unit, said: “The professional arrest and the significant seizure are a direct result of determination and exceptional operational alertness by the officers in the field. Even during wartime, when the Israel Police carry heavy responsibility for internal security, Jerusalem District officers operate around the clock and in every sector with uncompromising determination. We will continue to strike at crime in all its forms and protect the public at all times.”
