Israeli police and Border Police forces, operating under the “Shield of the Capital” operation, carried out a raid during recent days on a home in the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood of Jerusalem. The operation followed precise intelligence indicating the illegal possession of weapons and ammunition that could be used for criminal or security-related activity.
How Is Illegal Ammunition Hidden in Jerusalem?
After receiving the operational order, detectives from the Jerusalem District Major Crimes Unit, together with undercover Border Police officers and a canine unit, entered the house and conducted a search. During the operation, officers uncovered a concealed cache in which ammunition, an M-16 rifle, and pyrotechnic equipment originating from fireworks were hidden inside drink bottles, apparently in an attempt to disguise the weapons and evade detection.
The suspects, a 48-year-old father and his 22-year-old son, were arrested at the scene and taken for questioning by the Jerusalem District Major Crimes Unit. They were later brought before a magistrate’s court, which extended their detention until February 3, 2026.
Jerusalem District Police stated that “Operation ‘Shield of the Capital,’ outlined by the Jerusalem District Commander upon entering his role, serves as a fortified barrier against those seeking to harm the city’s residents. The seizure of weapons proves that the long arm of the Jerusalem District Police will reach every hideout and every home where illegal arms are stored. The goal of the operation is to protect the residents of the capital and to remove any criminal or security threat.”
