A 28-year-old Palestinian man was shot after midnight during a police chase in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan. He was hospitalized in serious condition at Hadassah Mount Scopus after allegedly pointing a gun at officers. Police said they suspected the car he was in, ordered him to stop, but he refused and attempted to flee. The incident is under investigation, with police indicating a criminal background.
Identity of the Suspect – Mahmoud al-Farouk
According to Palestinian sources, the suspect is Mahmoud al-Farouk. His father claimed he was hit by five bullets – four in the legs and one in the back. They said the incident took place in the Wadi Hilweh area of Silwan around 2 a.m. Reports state that al-Farouk was in a car with friends when police grew suspicious. He fled the vehicle on foot, prompting a chase. Local residents who rushed out at the sound of gunfire said they found him wounded on the ground before being pushed back by police. His father added that al-Farouk’s detention was extended by 10 days while he remains hospitalized.

Police Response to the Silwan Chase
In a statement, the police said: “Jerusalem District officers neutralized a suspect who pointed a gun at them while trying to escape. Earlier, the car he was in raised suspicions of holding a weapon. He refused to stop when ordered by Shalem station officers and attempted to flee as police pursued him.”
The statement continued: “At one point, in the Silwan neighborhood, the suspect got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers fired warning shots into the air. When the suspect turned toward them holding the weapon, they fired at him, neutralizing the danger.”
Police added that the suspect was taken in serious condition for medical treatment. The weapon was seized at the scene and the investigation continues.
