A neighborhood bakery in Shuafat turned into an unexpected crime scene. Where passersby usually expect the smell of fresh bread, police forces discovered a lethal cache of weapons and ammunition. The search, carried out under a court warrant, led to one of the most unusual seizures in recent months in East Jerusalem and added another chapter to the ongoing campaign led by the Jerusalem District Police.
The Shuafat bakery search
Detectives from the Shafat station, together with Border Police units and K9 handlers, arrived at the bakery in East Jerusalem following intelligence information. A police dog signaled an area where two Glock pistols, a loaded magazine, two empty magazines and additional ammunition were found. The discovery took place in the streets of Shuafat, a Jerusalem neighborhood long identified as a tense arena where law enforcement operations are part of daily life.
Arrest in Shuafat and extended detention in court
A Shuafat resident in his 20s was arrested at the scene. He was transferred to the Shafat police station, and in a court hearing his detention was extended until October 10, 2025. Investigators are now examining the routes by which the weapons arrived, possible links between the suspect and organized crime in East Jerusalem, and whether the cache was part of a wider weapons trafficking network.

East Jerusalem between routine and threat
In recent days, several additional seizures of illegal firearms have taken place in East Jerusalem neighborhoods, and the bakery incident underlines the depth of the phenomenon. Hiding pistols and ammunition in a commercial bakery in Shuafat is not just an unusual method of concealment; it shows how everyday life in Jerusalem remains intertwined with immediate security risks.
The uncompromising fight against illegal weapons
Police stress that this operation is part of the broader fight against the illegal possession of firearms in East Jerusalem. Officers in the Jerusalem District emphasize that every seized Glock pistol and every magazine taken off the streets represent another layer of protection for public safety. Border Police patrols, which operate daily in the corridors between Shuafat, Mount Scopus and the wider city, are described as a central force in containing potential violence.
