Earlier this week, in the morning hours, motorcycle unit officers from Jerusalem’s YASAM were dispatched to Begin Road following a report of a vehicle suspected to be stolen. During searches in the area, officers located the vehicle driving near Givon, allegedly on its way toward the West Bank.

The driver noticed the officers signaling him to stop but continued driving in an attempt to flee. A short chase ensued, during which officers carried out targeted fire toward the vehicle’s tires in order to stop it and prevent the escape.

How Was the Car Theft Foiled During the Jerusalem Chase?

The gunfire toward the tires led to the vehicle being stopped and the suspected theft being thwarted. The suspect was arrested at the scene without injuries and transferred to police custody.

A search of the vehicle uncovered burglary tools, a universal remote device and signs of tampering with the ignition system, strengthening suspicions that the car had been stolen shortly beforehand.

What Did Police Find in the Vehicle and How Did the Investigation Progress in Jerusalem?

The suspect, 31, a resident of Beit Nabala, was taken for questioning at the Lev HaBira police station in Jerusalem. He was later brought before a court, where his detention was extended.

Jerusalem District Police stated that “officers will continue to act decisively against property offenders, using all operational means at their disposal, in order to protect public safety and property.”
