Jealousy and Alcohol – Bar Violence Near Jerusalem

After drinking at a bar, a man smashed a bottle on an acquaintance’s head, claiming he “got close to his ex-wife”. Security cameras recorded it

Alcohol, ego and jealousy continue to collide inside nightlife spaces across Israel, often turning casual evenings into criminal investigations. What began as a social meetup in a neighborhood bar ended with a head injury, an arrest and a formal indictment filed by the Jerusalem District Prosecution Unit.

In Beit Shemesh, the neighboring city to Jerusalem, several patrons were gathered at a bar in the Neiman Square area. Among them were two men who had known each other through family and social ties. According to investigators, the two had been drinking together for some time before tensions erupted.

Bar violence and alcohol-fueled assaults

At one point, the suspect stood up holding a glass bottle and walked toward the acquaintance seated nearby. Without warning, he brought the bottle down on the man’s head with force, shattering it instantly. Glass shards hit the floor as other patrons tried to intervene, but he continued attacking the victim beyond the first blow.

The injured man was taken to hospital with a head wound. Police received reports of the assault and officers from the Beit Shemesh station were called to the scene.

Security camera footage as key evidence

Investigators collected witness statements and obtained security footage from inside the bar. The recordings clearly captured the moment of impact and the attacker’s actions. Within a short time, police identified the suspect, located his home and arrested him. When officers arrived, he was still wearing the same bloodstained clothing seen in the video.

During questioning, he claimed the assault was triggered by jealousy, alleging that the victim had “gotten close” to his ex-wife. Police noted that the two men were familiar with each other and had a previous family-based connection, heightening the shock around the case.

Indictment for aggravated assault

His detention was extended in court to complete the investigation. By the end of the week, the Jerusalem District Prosecution Unit filed an indictment for aggravated assault, along with a request to keep him in custody until the end of legal proceedings.

The incident reflects a broader pattern of alcohol-related violence in nightlife venues, where emotional tensions and impaired judgment can quickly lead to serious harm. The availability of security footage, combined with rapid police action, turned what might have remained a rumor into a documented criminal case.

What began as a night of drinking among acquaintances ended with broken glass, a hospital visit and a courtroom battle over responsibility, impulse and control.
