Yeshua Atiya, a 60-year-old Jerusalem resident and head of the “Shaarei Yeshua” kollel, was arrested upon landing in Israel by officers from the Jerusalem District Police’s Zion precinct anti-crime unit.

According to police, Atiya is suspected of exploiting his position and access to minors to carry out serious sexual offenses over a period of time. Investigators say the case is sensitive and complex, with concerns that additional victims have not yet been identified.

What are the allegations against Yeshua Atiya and how did he allegedly operate?

Jerusalem District Police said: “Officers from the Zion precinct anti-crime unit arrested a suspect in recent weeks for sexual offenses and indecent acts against minors. According to the suspicion, the suspect exploited his position as a kollel head and committed serious sexual offenses. His detention was extended by the court until March 30 to allow the investigation to continue”

Due to concerns that there may be additional victims linked to the suspect’s alleged pattern of behavior, the court authorized the publication of his image and identifying details.

How can potential victims report and what are police asking from the public in Jerusalem?

Police are urging anyone who may have been harmed by Yeshua Atiya, or anyone with relevant information, to contact their nearest police station or call Israel Police emergency line 100.

The investigation is ongoing, as authorities work to locate additional victims and build a fuller picture of the case.
