Jerusalem is advancing a new wave of urban renewal, with five major projects introducing roughly 1,100 new housing units, modern public buildings, commercial clusters and upgraded open spaces. The plans, recently approved by the local planning committee, mark another stage in reshaping neighborhoods such as Armon Hanatziv, Maalot Dafna, Gonenim and Ramat Eshkol, strengthening infrastructure and creating a more connected urban fabric.
?How is urban renewal in Jerusalem reshaping entire neighborhoods
In Armon Hanatziv, a vertical residential complex of 362 units will rise in towers of 22 to 30 floors, alongside employment and commercial areas. In Maalot Dafna, 298 new housing units and renewed public spaces will form a lively axis near the future Azure Line of Jerusalem’s light rail.
In Gonenim, two large scale projects will redefine the skyline: a 28 floor tower with 148 units at the San Martin and Rabbi Tzadok site, and another 134 unit development combining housing, commerce and employment near the future Purple Line. In Ramat Eshkol, two new 11 floor buildings will add 181 units and a commercial center of roughly 4,000 square meters.
?What do residents gain from the new high rise development
The projects include underground parking, kindergartens, daycare facilities, active commercial frontages and significant upgrades to open areas, including walking paths, preserved mature trees and improved access within each neighborhood. Together they create a more modern, service oriented and walkable environment.
From the Mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Lion, it was stated that “urban renewal is the opportunity of our generation. We are proud to lead the field in Israel. Renewal allows us to reshape streets and neighborhoods and brings social, economic and environmental fairness.”י”.
