The Jerusalem Municipality announced that it has completed its winter preparations ahead of potential strong winds, heavy rainfall and snowfall. Officials emphasize that winter weather in Jerusalem can shift quickly into extreme conditions, and broad coordination has been carried out to maintain public safety and keep the city functioning smoothly.
Municipal Winter Preparation
City crews from the Public Space Improvement Division are pruning hazardous trees near roads, sidewalks and power lines to prevent collapses during strong winds. The Gihon water corporation is cleaning and widening drainage systems across the city, while the Sanitation Division is clearing street inlets and collecting fallen leaves that can block water flow.
Salt reserves for icy road conditions have been replenished, and snow-clearing machinery is on standby should winter storms develop.
Jerusalem’s 106 municipal hotline is prepared to operate 24/7, responding to public reports and dispatching field teams to incidents such as flooding, fallen branches and infrastructure issues.
During extreme weather, the municipality advises avoiding the use of elevators or entering underground levels, and not crossing flowing water by foot or vehicle. In freezing conditions, letting hot water drip slowly can help prevent pipes from bursting.
