Dr. Israel Tal Saranga, one of the key figures shaping Jerusalem’s municipal communication strategy in recent years, will step down from his role in the coming weeks after seven years in office. During his tenure he built an integrated communications model, managed complex citywide messaging, and led public communication through major infrastructure projects and sensitive national events.
How did Saranga shape Jerusalem’s communications strategy?
Saranga coordinated the city’s communication work across all sectors – general public, Haredi communities, Arab residents, and international media. He oversaw public messaging for major infrastructure projects including the expansion of the light rail network, new city entrances, park and ride facilities, and the development of the Jerusalem Gateway district. He strengthened digital operations, advanced campaigns on cleanliness, urban renewal and public space visibility, and managed Jerusalem’s messaging during the COVID 19 pandemic and recent security events. His previous roles include spokesperson for the Israeli Air Force, head of communications at Israel Railways, and lecturer in communication at Ariel University.
How does City Hall respond, and what does Saranga say?
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion notes that he respects Saranga’s request to conclude his role. Lion states that “I deeply appreciate the work he led over the past years. His initiatives significantly improved the city’s ability to communicate with its residents and manage complex processes. His impact will remain with us for a long time.”
Dr. Saranga says that after an intensive period of work, the time has come to pause and consider his next professional steps. He notes that “these were years filled with responsibility and major achievements in a city unlike any other. I learned a great deal and contributed to a system that works around the clock for Jerusalem. Now I’m taking a break and looking ahead.”
The municipality will publish an official tender for the position and manage a structured handover with his successor.
