Against the backdrop of the war and the need to maintain full medical care even under threat, the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem continues operating underground hospitalization complexes at its hospitals on Mount Scopus and in Ein Kerem. Hundreds of patients are currently treated in these protected areas beneath the ground.
Hospital wards, neonatal units and operating rooms continue to function around the clock according to medical priorities and the condition of each patient. Medical and professional teams are working continuously to ensure uninterrupted care despite the complex circumstances.
How does the underground hospital ward at Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem operate?
Following an increase in the number of hospitalized patients and the growing need for protected beds, an additional underground complex was established within days at Hadassah Ein Kerem. The new facility, built inside the hospital’s protected parking area, provides more than 40 additional hospitalization beds and significantly expands the hospital’s ability to treat patients in a secure environment.
Prof. Yoram Weiss, Director General of Hadassah Medical Center: “Our hospitals on Mount Scopus and in Ein Kerem are expanding the protected underground complexes so that we can admit and treat as many patients as possible with minimal risk. Teams from all professions, especially operational teams, are creating these facilities almost from nothing and successfully establishing safe and professional spaces for treating patients from various hospital departments. I sincerely hope that this challenging period will leave us all stronger, knowing that we provided the very best care to our patients while safeguarding both the patients and our staff.”
A particularly human moment also took place in the new underground complex. Majed, 48, a father of four, serves as the security guard of the complex on behalf of the “Yamit” company and is responsible for patient safety. This morning he noticed that one of the patients seemed restless and worried because her family had not yet arrived. He approached her and kindly sat down to draw with her for a while until she calmed down.
