Night protest – clashes at Jerusalem entrance

Hundreds at Chords Bridge, roadblocks and one detained by police

On Wednesday night, November 5, a late-night protest erupted at the entrance to Jerusalem, drawing hundreds of demonstrators. At one point the march spilled onto the roadway near the Chords Bridge, blocking traffic and triggering clashes with police forces working to restore order.

According to the Jerusalem District Police, parts of the demonstration turned into an unlawful disruption of public order. Officers called on protesters to clear the road, but many refused. Police pushed demonstrators back onto the sidewalk, where the protest was allowed to continue without blocking traffic.

During the operation, several protesters obstructed vehicles and endangered drivers and other road users. One suspect was detained after allegedly attacking officers on the scene. Traffic in and out of the city was intermittently blocked, causing significant congestion.

Police stated that “Israel Police will protect the freedom to protest within the law, but will act against rioters who endanger the public and disrupt movement on the roads.”
