Last week, Jerusalem Police received a report about a woman in distress near Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Officers from the Moriah Station were dispatched and found the passenger shaken and terrified.
She told police that she accepted a hitchhike from a young driver near Mount Herzl on her way to her destination. The ride began normally, but within minutes the driver allegedly locked the doors and pulled out a sharp object.
Overnight search across Jerusalem
According to her testimony, she waited for the vehicle to slow down, opened the door, jumped out and hid in nearby bushes until police arrived.
Investigators used security camera footage to track down the vehicle. Throughout the night, officers carried out surveillance and search operations. The 22-year-old driver was located and arrested. A sharp object suspected of being used in the threat was found in the car. Police are also examining whether he is connected to another recent case involving a young woman who was attacked.
A court extended his detention for four additional days, until November 9, to allow the investigation to continue.
Jerusalem District Police said: “We view any attempt to harm the safety of the public with the utmost seriousness and will continue to act decisively against suspects involved in such offenses.”
