A video from a school in East Jerusalem shows a teacher choking a 13-year-old student in front of the class. The boy was taken to a Jerusalem hospital, and police arrested the educator seen in the footage.
Violence in Jerusalem schools
Police launched an investigation after a Jerusalem hospital reported a student with an arm injury from the incident. According to the findings, the student threw a pencil toward the teacher during a lesson, and the teacher responded by grabbing the boy’s neck, choking him, and throwing him to the floor, causing a fracture.
The classroom camera recorded the assault, and the video was handed to investigators from the Shalem police station.
The teacher, a resident of East Jerusalem in his 30s, was detained and questioned under caution. Police said they will ask the court to extend his detention as the investigation continues.
