A months-long investigation by the Jerusalem Border Police, supported by the Tactical Division, uncovered a network of drivers transporting illegal immigrants from the West Bank into Israel. The dramatic operation concluded on Route 6, with the arrest of two vehicles – a bus with a hidden compartment and a minibus – carrying 36 passengers without entry permits
The operation followed precise intelligence gathering and continuous surveillance aimed at preventing illegal infiltration into Israel. Authorities say it is part of a wider crackdown on smuggling through major transport routes

The investigation ran for several months, using advanced technological and operational tools. Forces tracked the smuggling route – from the pickup point in the West Bank, through entry into Israeli territory, and on to travel along key highways
Surveillance included positioning units along strategic roads, deploying drones and ground observers, and coordinating between multiple specialized teams. Security officials noted that stopping the vehicles prevented dozens of illegal immigrants from reaching central Israel

The operation involved Border Police fighters, detectives, motorbike units, and the drone unit, alongside the new ultra-Orthodox company of the Jerusalem Border Police. Once sufficient evidence was collected, forces blocked the vehicles on Route 6 and arrested the drivers – residents of Jerusalem and Ar’ara in their 30s – along with all the passengers
The suspects were transferred to the Jerusalem Border Police investigations unit for further questioning, and possible links to other smuggling incidents will be examined. Officials stressed that this action is part of an extensive security effort focused on the Jerusalem area and Route 6

Smuggling Networks – An Ongoing Threat to Public Security

Police officials emphasized that smuggling illegal immigrants is not only a criminal offense but also a potential enabler for terrorist activities. They vowed that the Border Police will continue operating with a combination of forces, intelligence, and technology to detect and stop all attempts to bring illegal immigrants into Israel. In recent years, there has been an increase in security activity along Route 6 and other main routes, with police describing these areas as strategic points for counter-smuggling operations.
Data collected over the past year shows that most smuggling attempts use specially adapted vehicles and fixed routes, allowing security forces to concentrate resources in high-risk zones. Increasing patrols and enforcement is considered a key tool in combating this ongoing threat
