Spanish Orchard in Jerusalem – Mulberry and Culture

A walk that feels like a song, in Jerusalem’s center among mulberry trees and a timeless melody

In the narrow lanes of Ohel Moshe and Nahalat Shiva lies the Spanish Orchard, Jerusalem’s Mulberry Garden. It is one of the few corners of the city that still carries the atmosphere of the family orchards planted here in the late 19th century. Restored and reopened in 2019, the garden remains a shaded, quiet enclave in the middle of the city, where old mulberry trees outline a story that survived well over a century.

Is Jerusalem’s Mulberry Garden, the Spanish Orchard, close to Mahane Yehuda Market?

Yes. The Mulberry Garden sits a short walking distance from Mahane Yehuda Market, hidden between the historic alleys of Ohel Moshe and Nahalat Shiva.

The garden’s cultural echo is part of what draws visitors here. A classic Israeli song that recounts childhood in Jerusalem includes a clear reference to a mulberry tree, linking the place to the city’s musical memory. This fusion of melody, alleyways and old trees turned the Spanish Orchard into a regular stop for walking tours, where nature, culture and local heritage meet in a single spot.

As seen in the photo, 8th-grade students from Neve Daniel stopped here during a tour exploring Jerusalem’s earliest neighborhoods – discovering how a small garden can hold decades of stories.
