On Sunday evening this week, a narrow alley in Jerusalem’s Old City became the scene of disturbing footage. Police surveillance cameras captured a teenager grabbing a cat by its tail, lifting it into the air and throwing it, in the middle of a busy urban passageway.
The incident was identified in real time by police observers at the David District control center, who immediately alerted officers and Border Police forces operating nearby. The suspect, a 17-year-old Jerusalem resident, was quickly located, arrested, and taken in for questioning. The incident ended without further harm to the animal.

The footage was detected through the police surveillance system operating across the Old City. The combination of advanced technology, human vigilance, and rapid response enabled swift intervention, arrest of the suspect, and the opening of an investigation the same evening.
A spokesperson for the Jerusalem District Police said: “The Israel Police views any harm to animals as a serious and unacceptable offense. We act with zero tolerance toward all forms of violence, against both people and animals.”
