Jerusalem District Police have completed broad security preparations ahead of the Rachel\u2019s Tomb pilgrimage, which will draw thousands of worshippers. The deployment follows the foiling of a deadly terror plot planned at the site, after the arrest of a Bethlehem resident – previously released in the hostage deal – revealed intentions to carry out an attack during the religious gathering.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of police officers, Border Police and security personnel will be deployed in and around the Rachel\u2019s Tomb compound to maintain public safety, prevent disturbances and direct traffic. Designated parking areas will be available at Teddy Stadium, from which shuttle buses will transport visitors to the site.
The pilgrimage will take place from Saturday night until Sunday evening. During this time, pedestrian access will be restricted along the main route between Rosmarin Junction and Rachel\u2019s Tomb, and illegal parking will be strictly enforced. Police urge the public to use public transportation and follow officers’ instructions.<\/p>\n
In a joint operation by the Judea District Crime Fighting Unit (YALP) and the Judea Border Police, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of resuming bomb-making activities after his release in the hostage deal. Security sources say he planned several attacks, including during the pilgrimage at Rachel\u2019s Tomb.
During the raid on his Bethlehem home, police found equipment and materials for preparing explosives, and the suspect was transferred for investigation.<\/p>\n
