But a series of criminal incidents \u2013 a violent assault and a fire in a residential building \u2013 turned the last days into something far more tense. A city that usually looks like a quiet suburban extension of the capital suddenly found police sirens, ambulances and flames breaking the night.<\/p>\n
In the first incident, a 23-year-old man was found in serious condition after being violently attacked in the Nachal Micha area. Paramedic Nati Ben Shimon from \u201cTzevet Hatzalah\u201d said they \u201cfound a young man semi-conscious, with penetrating wounds. Together with Magen David Adom teams, we stopped the bleeding, stabilized him and transferred him to a paramedic unit that rushed him to Shaare Zedek trauma center in Jerusalem.\u201d The Jerusalem District Police estimate that several suspects were involved, and the investigation continues.<\/p>\n
Around the same hours, fire broke out at the entrance of a residential building. Residents woke up to the sound of crackling flames and tried to put them out until firefighters and emergency teams arrived. After collecting testimonies, the Jerusalem District Police arrested an 18-year-old resident of the building on suspicion of arson, threats and witness tampering. A court extended his detention by four days.<\/p>\n
Beit Shemesh is expanding fast \u2013 new neighborhoods, rising population and rising prices in the real estate market.
