In the heart of Jerusalem, between busy streets and layers of history, a major transformation is about to unfold. Independence Park, one of the capital\u2019s central green lungs, is set for a comprehensive upgrade that aims to bring it to international standards and reshape how residents and visitors experience the city center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project, led by the Jerusalem Municipality in partnership with the Jerusalem Foundation and Eden Company, is scheduled to begin at the end of May and last \u062d\u0648\u0627\u0644\u064a 18 months. With an investment of approximately 80 million shekels, the plan is to turn the park into a vibrant hub for culture, leisure, and community life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the plans, the park will undergo a deep infrastructure overhaul. Water and drainage systems will be replaced, advanced irrigation systems installed, and extensive landscaping carried out alongside new planting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, new pathways, upgraded paving, and modern retaining elements will be introduced, along with advanced lighting and sound systems. The visitor experience is expected to change significantly, with open plazas featuring water elements for children, fountains, modern playgrounds, and shaded seating areas designed for all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the key goals of the project is to transform the park into a lively urban stage. Dedicated infrastructure will allow for performances, public gatherings, and large-scale events right in the city center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion said: “Independence Park is one of the most important and beloved symbols of the city, located at its very heart. We are setting out to turn it into a respectful, public, and modern space, welcoming and accessible at the highest standard. The project will combine preserving the green space with developing it into a vibrant cultural and leisure hub.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The broader vision extends beyond the park itself. According to the plan, Independence Park will become part of a continuous green pedestrian route linking key landmarks in Jerusalem, from Paris Square through the renewed Mamilla Pool and Teddy Park, all the way to Jaffa Gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
