Jerusalem Day 2026, marking 59 years since the city’s reunification in 1967, will reach its peak on Thursday, May 14, with the traditional Flag March, major concerts, cultural events, prayers at the Western Wall and widespread traffic closures across the city center and the Old City area.

The Jerusalem Municipality is holding this year’s events under the slogan “United in Jerusalem,” with a broad program spread over an entire week. Among the main events are concerts by Noa Kirel and Itay Levi at Pais Arena, a student rave at Safra Square, a spinning event overlooking the Old City walls, guided tours at the municipal complex, concerts, performances inside Zedekiah’s Cave and the main festive gathering at the Western Wall Plaza.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion said: “Jerusalem Day is a display of unity, joy and national pride. This year we chose to bring Israel’s leading artists to the city, while preserving the moving traditions of the capital’s holiday. I invite everyone to come up to Jerusalem, celebrate with us and enjoy the unique energy that exists only here.”

Will the Jerusalem Flag March follow its usual route?

According to police preparations, the Flag March is expected to take place along its traditional route: from Sacher Park, through the city center and toward the Western Wall, via the gates of the Old City. It is a route that draws tens of thousands of participants every year, but also creates a complex security, transportation and public-order challenge.

Jerusalem District Police stated: “The central mission before us is to secure the tens of thousands of celebrants, visitors and worshippers, maintain public order and regulate traffic arrangements. The police will act firmly and with zero tolerance toward any attempt to violate the law or harm public safety, using advanced technological means as well as visible and undercover forces.”

From the early morning hours, thousands of police officers, Border Police fighters and volunteers will be deployed across the city. Police say the goal is to allow the events to take place while maintaining freedom of worship, daily life in the city and public safety.

Which roads will be closed on Jerusalem Day?

Starting at 3:00 p.m., major roads in Jerusalem will be closed to traffic, including Ben Zvi, Bezalel, King George, Agron, Yitzhak Kariv, King Solomon, King David, Hativat Yerushalayim, Paratroopers, HaHandasa, the IDF Tunnel, Haim Bar-Lev, Sultan Suleiman and the Ophel route. The roads are expected to reopen gradually as the march advances.

The light rail will operate on a reduced schedule from 2:00 p.m., from the south up to the Central Station and from the north up to Ammunition Hill. Public transportation will be diverted to alternative routes.

At the same time, police will also secure the pilgrimage events at the Tomb of Samuel the Prophet. Route 436 will be closed intermittently from Mintz Junction to Har Shmuel, and access to the site will be allowed by public transportation only.

Jerusalem District Police stated: “We call on the public to follow the instructions of officers on the ground and avoid any form of violence, physical or verbal, in order to preserve the festive character of the day.”

Jerusalem is preparing for one of the busiest and most charged weeks on its civic calendar.
