The Hind Rajab Foundation, which pursues IDF soldiers who took part in Israel\u2019s \u201cSwords of Iron\u201d war in Gaza, has filed a legal complaint in the Netherlands against IDF reservist Sgt. Shmuel Assouline, a resident of Jerusalem, over alleged war crimes. According to the complaint, Sgt. Assouline, who served during the war in the \u201cZion\u201d company of the Netzah Yehuda Battalion in the Kfir Brigade, was involved in the destruction of civilian buildings in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The complaint is based on videos Assouline allegedly uploaded to social media, showing himself and his fellow soldiers inside the Gaza Supreme Court building, and later showing its demolition. According to the foundation, Assouline is currently in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case against Assouline focuses on evidence from his own social media activity, in which he documented himself and placed himself directly inside protected civilian sites. On January 24, 2024, according to the complaint, Assouline posted an Instagram album from the Gaza Strip containing two videos. The first video shows his company inside Gaza\u2019s Supreme Court building, the \u201cPalace of Justice\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the video, Assouline documents the interior of the building, shows his fellow unit members and declares: \u201cHere, we are inside their courthouse, the Palace of Justice. Nobody will stop us. We are everywhere. Come on, Zion!\u201d The same post also included a video showing controlled explosions of buildings in the area. The evidence proves, according to the foundation, that he was physically present at the site, publicly celebrated his unit\u2019s entry into the building, and served in a battalion that carried out multiple controlled demolitions across Gaza. \u201cHis own statements – \u2018Nobody will stop us,\u2019 \u2018We are everywhere\u2019 – reflect active identification with the campaign of destruction,\u201d the foundation\u2019s complaint states. The Gaza Supreme Court building was blown up by the IDF in early December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He's now walking free in Amsterdam.
