By morning, the city looked grim. Gray skies over Herzl Boulevard, thinner traffic than usual, an ambulance moving through a central route, and the feeling of a city trying to function while struggling to breathe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is no longer only a security issue. In Jerusalem, the war reaches almost every layer of daily life: parents are stuck with children at home just before the summer vacation, private business owners are trying to survive another day of uncertainty, and tourism – both foreign and Israeli – is still far from any real recovery. And yet, politically, Jerusalem remains a city that gives significant power to Netanyahu, the Likud and the other parties in his coalition, especially the ultra-Orthodox parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the latest situation assessment and Home Front Command instructions, the Jerusalem Municipality announced that the city is shifting to a reduced emergency format. In response to the missile launches from Iran, Mayor Moshe Lion ordered the opening of all municipal shelters and the activation of the city\u2019s emergency command center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipality stated that educational activities across Jerusalem would not take place, including schools, informal education programs and community activities for children and youth. Gatherings will be allowed only according to Home Front Command rules, and workplaces may operate only where people can reach a proper protected space within the required warning time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hospitals and health clinics in the city have also moved into an adjusted format. Hadassah said its hospitals are operating according to the instructions of the Home Front Command and the Ministry of Health, and stressed that “all urgent activity will continue as usual.” At the same time, patients who have difficulty moving independently were told they must arrive with an escort who can help them reach a protected space if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clalit in the Jerusalem District also announced an emergency format, subject to the existence of proper protected spaces in its clinics. Erez Levy, director of Clalit Jerusalem District, said: “Clalit teams are prepared to continue providing safe, high-quality medical service to residents of Jerusalem and the surrounding area, while expanding digital response and maintaining continuity of care during an emergency.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is where the great Jerusalem gap appears. The public in the city complains, wears down, grows tired and feels the war in its pocket, at home, on the roads and in the general mood. Parents are angry about another day without frameworks for their children, independent business owners fear another wave of cancellations, and hotels and tourism-based businesses continue to count losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But at the ballot box, Jerusalem still largely stands behind Netanyahu and the parties of his coalition. This is not only political loyalty. It is also identity, community, fear, tradition and a deep voting habit.
