A breakup is supposed to close a door. But in a case investigated in recent days in Jerusalem, it allegedly turned into a deeply disturbing campaign of surveillance. A 45-year-old resident of East Jerusalem was arrested on suspicion of attaching a tracking device to his former partner’s car, monitoring her movements and appearing at places where she was staying, despite an active protection order against him.
This is not merely a case involving a man who allegedly refused to accept that a relationship had ended. A tracking device secretly attached to a vehicle can turn every journey, stop and private meeting into information available to another person. A car, which is supposed to provide freedom of movement, effectively becomes a device revealing the driver’s location.
Officers from the Shafat Police Station in the Jerusalem District completed their investigation of the suspect. Police said his alleged conduct indicated that he posed a genuine danger to the woman.
How Was the Tracking Device Attached to the Car in Jerusalem Discovered?
The investigation began after the woman allegedly saw her former partner removing the tracking device from her vehicle. That moment apparently exposed what had been happening behind her back and led her to file a complaint with the police.
According to the suspicion, the device enabled the man to determine where his former partner was and to arrive at locations where she was staying. Police examined the complaint, collected evidence and developed an evidentiary basis against him.
A protection order is not a recommendation or a symbolic warning. It is intended to distance a person from someone who fears them and to establish a clear boundary that must not be crossed. In this case, the suspect allegedly did not limit himself to remote surveillance but physically appeared at places where the woman was present.
He is suspected of violating a protection order and infringing on her privacy. Following the investigation, a prosecutor’s declaration was filed, indicating the Jerusalem District Police Prosecution’s intention to submit an indictment.
Master Sergeant Amir Suaed, head of the Domestic Violence Investigation Team at the Shafat Police Station, stated: “This is a suspect whose alleged conduct posed a genuine danger to the victim. Israel Police acts decisively against every manifestation of violence, harassment and harm to the security of crime victims, and will continue working to bring those involved to justice.”
The investigation demonstrates how a small and widely available piece of technology can become a blunt instrument for invading another person’s life. In this case, it was allegedly used not only to discover where the woman was, but to almost entirely erase the boundary she had attempted to establish.
