It was supposed to be a quick operation: grab a bag containing jewelry and diamonds, jump into a car and disappear. But in the neighboring city of Beit Shemesh, near Jerusalem, the alleged plan went wrong. The owner of the bag fought back, the driver accelerated, and within seconds, the attempted robbery turned into a dangerous struggle that left the victim injured. Jerusalem District Police have now identified and arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
The robbery took place on September 23, 2026, when, according to investigators, suspects attempted to snatch a bag containing jewelry and diamonds worth thousands of shekels. The victim refused to surrender his belongings, and the confrontation quickly took a dangerous turn.
During the struggle, the victim was partially dragged into the suspects’ vehicle. The driver began moving in an attempt to escape while the man was still fighting to hold on to his bag. Moments later, the victim fell from the vehicle and sustained injuries. He was taken to hospital for medical treatment, with his condition described as mild to moderate.
How Did Jerusalem District Police Solve the Diamond Robbery in Beit Shemesh?
The car that fled the robbery scene left behind an injured man and a series of unanswered questions. Who was involved? How had the suspects encountered the victim? Was he randomly targeted because he was carrying a valuable bag, or had the robbery been planned in advance? Authorities have not publicly provided answers to these questions.
Investigators at the Beit Shemesh police station launched an investigation aimed at identifying and tracking down those responsible. Several days later, two men in their twenties, residents of Ramla and Lod, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the robbery.
In a statement, Jerusalem District Police said: “Upon receiving the report, an investigation was opened at the Beit Shemesh police station. Detectives and investigators carried out a range of investigative activities, using all available resources to identify the suspects, with the involvement of the Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office. After two of the suspects were identified, they were arrested several days later, and their detention was extended periodically by the court in accordance with the needs of the investigation.”
Following several weeks of investigation, police announced that sufficient evidence had been collected to support further legal proceedings against the two suspects. A prosecutor’s declaration was submitted to the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, and their detention was extended until October 14, 2026, ahead of an expected indictment by the Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office.
What began as an attempt to steal a bag filled with jewelry and diamonds escalated into a violent incident involving an injured victim and a getaway vehicle. With two suspects now in custody, the case is moving from the police investigation stage toward criminal proceedings, while questions about the selection of the victim and the planning behind the robbery remain unanswered publicly.
